Colby Tisbury must marry, and soon. If he doesn't find a bride before the end of the Season, his father will supply one. This book is okay if you're just looking for something to read to waste time. However, this book didn't seem to have been read through by an editor and there were some definite historical inaccuracies. One example is when one of the girls is left at a ball by herself when the other girl is escorted home by their chaperone. There's actually a few times the girls are without chaperones when that would never have happened. Some of the language is definitely modern as well, and while that normally wouldn't bother me it did because of the other issues with this book. The writing was choppy and didn't seem to flow very well which made this book difficult to get into. The villain was definitely lackluster and the book as a whole seemed rushed with a lot of details jammed in around the plot which is why I felt it needed an editor. There were some needless characters and some odd names that didn't seem to fit the place and time period. Overall, I could see the potential this book had, but it fell short for me.Product details

Love by Deception Book 2 Age of Innocence edition by Debra Elizabeth Romance eBooks Reviews
Great writing. It shows that the truth will always come to light and love will always prevail
The book was well written, the two female leads had depth to their characters, and it was a quick read. Aside from War And Peace having more characters, this book could only come second, some of them not even necessary for the plot! Everybody besides the two female leads back story's, were so thin, you could see through them. The title of the book, "Love by Deception" you would think serious lies, says, intrigue, not anything HALF THAT INTERESTING! Finally the cover, you think your going to get a little romance scene, but aside of some kisses, that's it. Fell flat.
I totally agreed with Kara-eccentric's review. . .She is correct in her conclusions.
One thing, that I would add, is a comment on the act of making her the drudge for the household. Why? Is she Cinderella? I found this tale hard to follow, and reconcile to the age in which it was supposed to occur. It was a sophomoric attempt at historical fiction , that lacked character growth, and realism. The author needs to do the research, and learn more of the era and its customs before she attempts to write in this genre.
I would not recommend this tale.
I enjoyed the story at first. But it didn't follow through. Nearly everyone is a nice and kind person. Old advice to writers If there is no conflict, there is no story. There is a minor conflict in this book. But it's glossed over and not really felt. I didn't get invested in an outcome I wanted to see.
The father could have provided some antagonism, but quickly becomes a pitiable but romantic man. The only other person who could have potentially have provided some desperately needed conflict is incredibly lackluster and ends up whimpering out of the story. AND the heroine wants to befriend her because she feels sorry for her. Really? In what world is everybody you come across wonderful people ready to be your best friend or beloved family or friend of the family? It smacks of a grade or middle school attempt at writing a historical romance. Historical inaccuracies and too sugary of characters. Like a fairytale. But even those have villains.
Inaccuracies bother me. In society, there are proprieties to be maintained. Families are to mourn deaths. Not set off to London for the Season within several months of the death. And that long of a wait due to waiting for a confirmation of it being okay to stay with a family friend. Young unmarried women going without a chaperone. Riding home at night after a ball in a carriage with a man just met that night? The supposed chaperone at a ball stating "I have friends I haven't seen in a while. I'm going to go talk with them. I'm sure you'll be fine on your own." Unlikely to happen in the country at a local dance. Nevermind in London among good society. And finally the father objecting to his son marrying the heroine because she doesn't know her parents. But once he is told she is the illegitimate love child of a Lady and a gentleman? Oh. Well that's okay then. Being illegitimate was a horrible stigma. Even if it wasn't publicly known. To be a child of an affair meant the child carried the sin of the parents. As if it was the kid's fault for how they were conceived.
A decent story concept, but it failed in execution. There was no growth to the characters. I don't expect any of them to be happy in their marriages. They've faced no trials. Nothing to make them strong characters. I would think they'd fall apart if something truly went wrong or bad in their lives. If research on society and culture was done and followed, along with flushing out the story fully, this author could have something to offer the world of historical romances.
I really enjoyed the story line.it was very suspenseful I got worry the story wouldn't end like I want it too.
it was worth my time to read it.
From the pictures, I was expecting something different, and I about didn't buy it. It's a clean book, with only kissing in it. That's the kind of story I like, and I'm glad I didn't judge the book by its cover....
My greatest pleasure is to read about the previous books characters again. The author does a wonderful job of showing the love still living within the couple's while at the same time telling a whole new story. I often find myself wishing the books would go on so I could see how they are later. This book satisfied that craving. I also very much enjoyed reading a little from everyone's point of view, It added much more depth that many authors don't go into. I just wish there were more books to read.
